THE YEAR OF INTENTIONAL PROVENANCE

The era of the quick fix, of spaces designed to look good briefly but age poorly, is fading. In its place is a renewed appreciation for authenticity, sustainability, and design that holds emotional as well as aesthetic value.

Sustainability, in this context, is layered. It’s not just about materials, but about mindset—moving away from disposability and toward thoughtful choices that respect both craftsmanship and the life of a home.

Everyone enters this journey differently, but the collective direction is clear: fewer shortcuts, more substance.

1. Sustainability - True Luxury

Sustainability is no longer a talking point; it’s the baseline. its no longer just about materials—it’s embedded in every decision, at every step of the design process. In 2026, vintage and thoughtfully preserved pieces become the true luxury, valued not as an alternative, but as the intentional, elevated choice.

Being conscious of what you're bringing in to your home and what is going out and how and where is it going.

Choosing vintage, for example, is not merely charming—it’s one of the smartest, most responsible choices you can make. It’s also about how you treat the items leaving your home: discarding solid wood furniture in a landfill is no longer acceptable. Before tossing it out, think of the having it refinished in a current colour or finish.

Design Element: Incorporate vintage or heirloom pieces—an antique sideboard, a reclaimed wood table, or a handwoven rug made with natural fibres.

Each piece brings a story, history, and layers of meaning that elevate the home beyond aesthetics

2. Provenance - Lived-in Beauty

In 2026, provenance moves from concept to cornerstone. Finishes and colour palettes are increasingly defined by origin, material honesty, and how a surface will evolve over time.

We’re seeing a shift toward mineral-based paints, softly weathered stone, hand-finished plaster, and layered neutrals drawn from earth and pigment rather than trend forecasts. These choices speak to longevity, craftsmanship, and quiet confidence.

This approach directly informs how I work with clients. Every finish is selected with intention—chosen specifically for their home, never replicated from another project. Each material and colour decision is personal and considered, designed to reflect who they are while meeting every functional and aesthetic requirement with clarity and purpose.

Design Element: Choose materials with texture and depth, like mineral-based paints, soft matte plasters, or layered textiles. These choices are intentional, tactile, and adaptable, allowing the space to evolve gracefully with time, engaging local artisans and fabricators.

3. Tailored - Not Trend-Driven

Homes are going to be more personal and less cookie-cutter, (Ahhh!) designed to live in, not just for show.

Shaped by life itself—by pieces collected over time and the stories that unfold within their walls, rather than being styled for fleeting moments on social media.

This shift reflects a renewed appreciation for authenticity, seen in surfaces with character and colour choices that genuinely resonate with the homeowner. Beauty is no longer instantaneous or performative; it is layered, tactile, and deeply felt. These are interiors that age gracefully, evolving in step with the people who live within them.

Design Element: Color Used with Intention, no more grey for the entire room...choose colours that resonate personally rather than what’s trending.

A deep, grounding hue in a library or a warm neutral that reflects natural light unique to your home creates relevance that outlasts any forecast.

Drop me a line to share what you resonate with, I love hearing from you
